Where the water and the path meet

This route follows part of the course of one of the most unknown treasures of the Empordà: the Manol River, a tributary of the Muga full of life and history. Along 19.8 km, you can enjoy a unique cycling experience close to nature, crossing landscapes that unite charming villages Vilafant, Borrassà, Avinyonet de Puigventós, Vilanant, Navata, Cistella and Lladó.

The Manol, a Mediterranean river with changing waters that hides a rich biodiversity, creating an ideal setting to connect with nature on each pedal. This route is ideal for cyclists with some experience, not so much because of the gradient, which is low, but because of some rocky sections that add a bit of adventure.

It should be borne in mind that the route crosses the Manol River several times, be cautious before crossing if you see a lot of water falling.

Some of the river crossings are quite difficult due to their steepness and slippery stones, so be careful. You must be an experienced cyclist to do this route.

The route can be followed from different points. Here we describe the route starting in Vilafant and ending in Lladó. To follow the route, look for the vertical yellow signposts. You'll also find small square markers on small wooden poles and yellow paint marks.

The route starts at the Itinerànnia VF1 sign at the Vilafant pavilion in the Forques area. Following the signs, head toward Bòbila d'en Soler, crossing VF3, and continue toward the gorges via Palau Sabaldòria. Pass the Palol gorge, crossing VF4, and continue toward the Mas Nou gorge, crossing VF5. We follow this path until we reach the road, which we must cross and continue into the village of Vilafant until we reach the VF8 junction between Carrer del Nord and Carrer de Olot. We turn left, passing by the Alzina de la Font de Can Maçanet, and continue to the old resclosa, at the VF10 junction. We cross the river and continue on the other side to the right. We continue this path uphill until we reach the Timba path, at the VF12 junction. We now continue along a track between fields through the Timoners plain.

At Mas Vilar, we find the BO1 junction. If we want to reach the town of Borrassà, we can turn left.

The route continues towards Santa Eugènia, which is a few meters away. We continue along the track, following the signs, passing under the road until we reach the Manol hortes, at the AE198 and AP12 junctions.

From here, we can reach the town of Avinyonet de Puigventós and also visit the Mas Margall ponds.

The route continues toward Taravaus. Pay attention to the AP13 Pla Margall junction, as we leave the main road and take the path to the left until we reach Camp del Manol and Bosc de l'Arrufat, at junction VN8.

If we want to visit the town of Vilanant, turn right, and after crossing the river, we can head toward the village along the Taravaus path or below Mas Tarascó.

Following the suggested route, we head toward Taravaus, cross the town, and continue along the track to the right. We cross Manol via the footbridge, and at the Mas Tarascó mill, at junction VN16, we continue toward the Mas Nabot woods until we reach Mas Rodeja. Before Mas Rodeja, we cross the river again and find the old mill. At junction VN12, we can follow a round trip path to visit Sant Jaume dels Solers and continue along the Mas Moreu path.

At junction N1, Pla de Manol, we can turn left if we want to reach the town of Navata.

We continue the route toward Lladó, passing the path that connects Can Bellmàs, Can Fonollet, and Mas Riera.

Passing the Marlot farms, at junction N4, we can follow the path to the right and reach Cistella.

We continue the route toward Lladó, crossing the river a few more times and passing near La Teulera.

At junction LLD4, Camps del Manol, there is another path that takes us to Navata.

We continue toward Lladó. At junction LLD5, there is also another path that takes us to Cistella. We continue straight ahead to reach Lladó, where our proposed route ends.

If we want to do the route in reverse, the AE52 junction at the start of the route is located in the parking lot next to the Plaça Major, above the Tria torrent.
