This route crosses the lower stretch of the Fluvià River up to the river mouth revealing the different types of plants in the area, from woodland vegetation along the river bank, to the vegetation of the salt marches and sand dunes. The route starts at the Tourist Information Office in Sant Pere Pescadro, where you will see the signpost AE221-Sant Pere Pescador – Marge dret, which indicates «Sant Martí d'Empúries 2h10». Continue in this direction along the right bank of the Fluvià, flanked by various species of trees such as different poplars. Next go past a campsite and then cross the Riu Vell bridge over a section of the Fluvià that flows along to the old river mouth in Sant Martí d'Empúries. Carry on along this path until you get to the track that you must take on the left, following along the river bank. After 10 minutes you come to a view point on the banks of the river, from here you can admire the well-conserved woodland vegetation of Caramany Island, a part of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Nature Reserve. In winter it is easy to spot ospreys (Pandion haliaetus). You then carry on along the path bordered by cypress tree fences and fields of apple trees until you come to another viewpoint on the banks of the river. Shortly you will come to an intersection and yellow marks that tell you to continue along this track.
At this point leave the “Itinerànnia” track and go straight ahead on the path that runs along the river bank, following the blue markings. Later you come to another crossing. Continue in the direction of the Mas Martinet track. From this point you will see a change in the vegetation, with typical sea marsh species such as bulrushes, Mediterranean saltbushes, Parish's glasswort and tamarisks, you can also see small temporary lakes.
After 10 minutes you come to a small viewing pint over the mouth of the Fluvià, from here you have a good view of the Serra de Rodes mountain rigdes. Carry on ahead, following the blue marks. Go along past the sand dunes and the beach of Sant Pere and then cross a dirt car park where you will see a track tailing off to the left. At this intersection you must once again find de “Itinerànnia” yellow sign posting. Carry on in the direction of Sant Pere Pescador along the track bordered by tamarisk trees. You will then come to Mas Martinet, currently a rural tourism establishment. Follow the trail until you come to an intersection on the left; from here follow the yellow markings until you reach the track that runs alongside the river. Continue along this track that takes you back to the Tourist Information Office.
