Els Comuns. Route 1 Tortellà

The route takes us to the Els Comuns quarry, where the stone used to build the Olot to Besalú dual carriageway was extracted. Quarry work stopped in 2010 and it is currently being restored.

We leave Plaça de Tortellà, where we find the G50 crossroad, and continue towards Carrer de França, following signs for the Els Comuns route. A few metres ahead, we find the G164 crossroad, which also tells us to continue straight on.

At the crossroad of Carrer de França and the La Cortada path, we find the T1 Carrer de França crossroad, where we go straight on towards Els Comuns quarry via Pla de Carig.

We follow the Sant Antoni path, cross the road and take the Sínia path, which comes out at a path that has not been tarmacked. After a few metres, we will go along a small section at the end of the Dalt neighbourhood path, and very soon we will be near the quarry where we will find the T2 Pla de Carig crossroad.

At this point, if we only want to go on a short walk we head for Tortellà via the Palol pond. In a little over an hour, we can return to Tortellà.

Our suggestion is to continue towards the Sant Jordi chapel:  this route follows the Els Valencians path, which is a very beautiful route.

After about an hour, we find the T4 Creu de la Ripolla crossroad; at this point we leave the basic Itinerànnia network behind and continue towards the Sant Jordi chapel, as shown on the Els Comuns route signpost. We will arrive in approximately one more hour.

When we are close, we will see a small sign indicating the chapel: we leave the main path and arrive there a few metres on.

We go back and follow the path towards La Pedrera (quarry) viewing point.

When we reach the viewing point, where the T3 La Pedrera viewing point crossroad is, we must head to Tortellà via the Palol pond.

In this last section, we can see the Palol pond and, following the Palol path, we enter Tortellà on La Cortada path, we go to the end of Carrer de França, where we find the T1 crossroad and, continuing on Carrer de França, we return to the Plaça where we began the route.
