Circular route that allows us to approach the Muga Partial Nature Reserve and take in a wonderful panoramic view of the river valley. The route starts in the town of Sant Llorenç de la Muga, skirts the waters of the river and goes up to the Torre de Guaita (aka Torre dels Moros). During the route, we can enjoy the riparian forest, the hermitage of Sant Antoni, the Muga nature reserve and the historical and cultural heritage of the medieval centre of Sant Llorenç de la Muga.
We park the car in the Pont Vell car park and find the crossing of Itinerànnia AE57 Sant Llorenç de la Muga where we start the itinerary.
We go along the sidewalk until the yellow markings make us cross and turn left in the direction of the center of town. We can see the reconstruction of an old water wheel (sínia) from the Sant Llorenç castle. We go down the stairs and find the crossing AG28 Passeig de Sant Antoni, we continue along the promenade passing over the stream.
At the end of the path, we reach the church of Sant Antoni and the bridge. The earliest documented mention of the chapel dates from 1835, but it is believed that there had been a place of worship here previously. The bridge is of medieval origin which, in the past, was called Pont del Grau. Once we have crossed the bridge, where we have magnificent views of La Muga, we continue a few meters along Carrer de la Resclosa where we find the AG29 junction.
The proposed route continues to the left towards the tower of Guaita or dels Moros, but before that we have the option to go to the right, towards the track in the direction indicated by Coll de Querol and reach the Font Fradera, it is about 800 meters away (half an hour there and back). The source is conditioned with a roof and some benches, and is known for having very fresh water. After seeing the source we return to the AG29 crossing and continue the route.
Follow the path to Can Roure.Upon reaching a communications tower, take the track on the right to reach Torre de Guaita (aka Torre dels Moros). This tower was built in the 13th century to monitor the entire Muga valley.
We follow the trail that goes down to Font de la Palanca spring (aka Font del Lleó) and cross the Muga river using the metal lever bridge, from where we can see La Muga and the orchards.
We are in front of the walled old town, of medieval origin, still contains three gateways and its watchtowers. We cross the Mitger portal where we find the AG30 junction and continue through the village to return to the car park.
