The Montgrony Sanctuary is located on a spectacular ridge on the south face of the Montgrony Mountain range. The uniqueness of the enclave fills the whole complex with magic and turns it into a fantastic vantage point with views that range from Montseny to Pedraforca.
We start the route at the crossroads of Itinerànnia R53 Gombrèn-Camí Ral and proceed in the direction of Montgrony, following the yellow marks. Then, we must proceed for about 200 m along the GI-402 road, leave the road and take the path to the sanctuary, which veers off to the right. We then leave Gombrèn behind and cross the Barruell ravine.
Next, we continue advancing to arrive at the oratory of San Francisco. At this point, the path turns to the left and climbs upwards making a couple of zigzags. Then we need to cross a red pine forest, whereupon we enter an oak grove. The Pomanell farmhouse will be left behind on our left-hand side. We continue flanking the mountain through the area known as La Creueta and pass under the Jou hill, which is at the top on the left, which is when the sanctuary will appear before us.
We make a last stretch of steep climb and arrive at the car park at the entrance to the enclosure of the Montgrony Shrine, where we find the R60 intersection. First, we find the building that used to be the priest’s house and the inn. Next, we must climb the legendary stairs carved into the rock to the small chapel of our Lady of Montgrony. We continue along the second flight of stairs upwards to arrive at the plateau where the church of Sant Pere de Montgrony is located. The return is via the same route.
