An ideal route to discover by bike the heart of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. From Olot to Santa Pau, the route combines comfortable cycle paths with unique volcanic landscapes, crossing the Fageda d’en Jordà beech forest and providing access to the region’s most iconic volcanoes, such as Santa Margarida and Croscat.
The Olot–Santa Pau cycle tourism route is a connection from the Carrilet Greenway that leads to the Fageda d’en Jordà beech forest, the Santa Margarida and Croscat volcanoes, and the village of Santa Pau. The route includes both segregated cycle paths and shared sections.
The route starts at the Sant Roc bridge in Olot. Following the route signage, we ride alongside the river, cross the Santa Coloma road and continue along the cycle lane on Uruguay and Paraguay avenues until reaching the Les Móres park. Carefully, we cross Sant Jordi road at the indicated point and continue along the Triai road.
We cross the Revell irrigation channel and continue along the Triai road. Leaving the Triai meadow on our right, we turn left after a few metres towards Sant Cristòfol les Fonts. We pass near the church and, continuing along the cycle path, reach the Santa Pau road.
We cross it carefully, as the cycle path continues on the opposite side of the road. Along this section, we pass through the Can Blanc neighbourhood and reach the Can Serra car park, the main entrance to the Fageda d’en Jordà. Here, bicycles can be left if we wish to visit this unique forest.
The cycle path continues towards Santa Pau, running parallel to the road. This exclusive path for cyclists and pedestrians ends after the Coll de Caselles. From here, it is possible to visit the Croscat volcano, where there is a bicycle parking area at the entrance.
We continue towards Santa Pau, crossing the road at the traffic lights. If we wish to climb up to the Santa Margarida volcano, bicycles can be parked in this parking area.
To continue towards Santa Pau, we turn left and follow a quiet track, which may be shared with other vehicles. This section is not signposted as part of the cycle route; cyclists must follow the yellow painted markings and the Itinerànnia signs towards Santa Pau.
We pass in front of the Rocanegra volcano quarry and finally enter the village of Santa Pau through Sant Roc square. To reach Mieres, the road must be used, as the path is currently not suitable for cycling.
