Route that leaves Ribes de Freser, through Ribes Altes and reaches the refugi del pla d'Erola, area of Natural Interest and potential habitat of the capercaillie. It has good views and picnic area. The route is full of vegetation, alpine thickets, mountain fauna and red and white pine forests. You can catch a glimpse of some villages and peaks that crown the Ribes Valley.
Caution should be taken with the cattle grazing in times of breeding and carry pets kept on a leadl all along the route.
Leave the crosspoint Castell de Sant Pere (R123) XIth century construction, and take the old road from Ribes de Freser to Ribes Altes wher the ascent starts from the residential area up to the castle (RF3). Continue along the rocky road with bushes that go a few meters further, throug a small forest, wich allows us to enjoy the nice scenery with Taga on the right.
Once we leave the pine forest, climb a field with a steep slope overlooking Pardines in the background until you reach Can Nadal (RF4) already in the neighbourhood of Ribes Altes.
Continue until you reach the crossroads R118 and here take the paved path towards Tregurà following the route. Turn on the second crossing to the right, which will take you to a small shortcut to continue the natural path that leads to the Refugi pla d'Erola. Follow the path with terraces on the sides and full of vegetation, alpine scrub and mountain fauna, from where you can see the neighbourhood of Batet, on the left, up to the height of Clot. Continue along the road bordering the fields, pass by the font de Malarraça through a fence and follow the path to reach the track at the intersection of bosc de Ribes (RF5). Cross the track following the path among red and black pine forrests, where you can glimpse Queralbs, Serrat and Fustanyà, on the left up to the top. Once at the shelter, you can enjoy panoramic views from a lookout from which you will see some of the villages and peaks that crown the Vall de Ribes, which also has an interpretation centre. The descent can be done by the same path where you come from or by Ventaiola.
