Via romana Capsacosta from Sant Salvador de Bianya or pas dels Traginers. Route 1 Vall dels sentits

This road, which was an offshoot to the Via Augusta, was denominated Via Annia by various scholars. From Figueres it climbed up through mountainous regions and after crossing the plane of Bianya it carried on up through Capsacosta to eventually reach the Coll de Ares, to again later join up with, now in Galia, the alreaday mentioned main route. Via Annia is the name given to our network of paths.

The whole incorporated stretch of the Roman Road is conveniently signposted with cast iron posts. It has been declared cultural wealth of national interest and as such not many sign posts are needed along the way, as the route is easily followed. It is a historical path and explanations are to be found along the way. If we choose the first option, we start the hike at Sant Salvador de Bianya after visiting the centre of interpretation of Vall de Bianya. We begin our hike at the VB2 indicator and take the path that leads us to the Via Romana (Roman road).

If we choose the second option we initiate our journey from the pas dels traginers, where we find a VB1 indicator. We border manor houses named Can Bertranet and Can Salvi then pass alongside the Moli del Clot. We follow the path pas the house known as the Pineda, before again crossing the river and continuing on to Can Pere Sastre. We carry on along the path, crossing a dirt track to continue rising up as far as the first Capsacosta tunnel and later Sant Josep oratory. We follow the dirt track up the hill and just before crossing the Capsacosta road, to the right we find the ruins of Hostalets de Capsacosta.

Whichever route we have chosen, at this point the meet at VB3, just above the Callis manor house. We take the direction indicated towards Sant Pau de Segúries.

The track begins to gain in heigh and the first stone slabs appear. From here we walk along the cobbled road. Along the margin of the road there are large ashlars, drains and wheel guards, which are some of the elements that we can still see after being built more than 2000 years ago.

Our hike comes to an end at San Pau Vell, at the G169 crossing, in the town of Sant Pau de Segúries.
