- Coves and coastal paths
One of the special features of the Empordà is the network of paths. They are paths that run along the coast and have been used for various purposes throughout history; to get to the coves if a ship was sinking, to watch the horizon to prevent pirate raids and even contraband after the Spanish Civil War. Now you can walk along them and peacefully enjoy the coastal landscape and get to the hidden coves where other daily events used to take place.
Our proposals for coves and coastal paths are out-and-back stretches to discover the best corners of the Alt Empordà coast.
We will walk along the beautiful white sandy coves of Empúries, very close to the important Greco-Roman archaeological site. A perfect and peaceful walk for families.
Leave Sant Martí d'Empúries through the door of the wall in Plaça Petita, find the AE223-Sant Martí d’Empúries trail junction and walk in the direction of L'Escala. When the trail reaches the Horts d’en Roure it coincides with the yellow Itinerànnia trail markers, which can be used as a reference along the way.
Continue walking along the Sant Martí d'Empúries and then Moll Grec beaches, which also coincide with the GR92, passing by the archaeological site on the right, then Muscleres and Portitxol beaches.
The next stretch runs through the Pedrigolet woods before heading to Platja del Rec del Molí. At the end we find the sign AE224A L'Escala-ronda, we go left.
Continue along the side of the road for a section, following the Costa la Font and the Costa del Pla (above the cross), descending a set of stairs bordering Pedró point to Platja de l'Escala beach. Return along the same route.
