Start at the signpost G158 Maià de Montcal and head for ‘Besalú (1h35min)’. Pass first in front of the town hall and soon afterwards the church of Sant Vicenç. Here, turn left and pick up a metalled road that soon becomes a dirt track.
Walk until you come to signpost MM4 Pocafarina, where you should turn left and head into a thick holm oak forest. Turn left to come to the church of Sant Prim in just a few metres.
Pass by the front of the church and continue along the forest track following the yellow waymarking until it signals you to leave the track and head along a path that after a while passes underneath the main N-260 road. On the other side pick up the track that will take you to the hamlet of Bruguers.
At signpost MM5 Bruguers you have a choice: for those wishing to cycle, head for ‘Dosquers’, while those on foot should choose between the cycle route or the option indicated ‘Dosquers (pel castell)’.

Once past Bruguers, the cycle route reaches signpost MM6 Camí Ramader, where you should turn left and follow the track until you come to signpost G176 Dosquers. Here, turn left and in less than five minutes you will come to signpost MM7 Sant Martí de Dosquers. (This is where those who have chosen to go on foot – who will have passed by the ruins of Maià castle – rejoin the route).

Leave Dosquers along the metalled road and just before the main N-260, drop down to the left and pass underneath the road to the other side.
Continue to follow the yellow waymarking as far as signpost MM3 Camps de Can Janassa, where you should continue straight on along a track until you reach the road to Maià de Montcal. Turn right and after a few metres along the tarmac, the yellow waymarking points you left along a dirt track.
Pass behind the football field and the swimming pool until you come back to the metalled road. Turn right and after a few metres you will find yourself back at the start of the walk.
